Suit Measurements

You Need:

1. A fabric tape measure
2. A friend to help with the measurements
3. Wear a properly fitted shirt, no belt, and pants with your pockets empty.

Measuring Guide

• The tape should always be snug, never twisted, and never pulled fully tight.
• Measurements are to be taken in inches to the nearest quarter inch.
• When taking measurements do not give yourself extra room, we will do that on our end
• Stand with your normal posture, no puffing out chests or trying to correct your posture during measuring.

Shoulder Slope

Suit Jacket Length

• Measure straight down the front from the base of the neck (right or left side) to the point level with your thumb knuckle.

Vest Front Length

- Measure straight down the front from the base of the neck (right or left side) to 1/3rd down your dress pants fly.
- 1/3rd from the top of the fly. (The white line)

Vest Back Length

- Measure straight down the back from the base of the neck to the midway point between the bottom of your pants waist and the widest part of your seat.

Chest

• Measure around the chest and body at its fullest part (typically right under the armpits and shoulder blades, right across the nipples).
• Hold the tape against the body tight enough so that it does not slip down, but not so tight that it restricts breathing. It should be “snug”.
• Make sure the tape is horizontal and your arms are by your side
• Do not puff out your chest
• Double-check this measurement.

Stomach

• Measure around the fullest part of the waist/stomach.
Usually within an inch of your belly button.

Pants Waist

• Measure around your waist at the level where you would normally wear your pants belt.
• Make sure you are not wearing your belt
• With the tape measure snug around your waist, relax, and take the measurement. Don't be alarmed if this measurement seems larger than expected; off-the-rack pants are normally labeled as being smaller than what they really are.

Vest Bottom

• Measure halfway between the bottom of your pants waist & the widest part of your hips (where the tape measure is)
Approximately where the red line is in the photo

Hips

• Measure around the fullest part of your hips and buttocks.
• Double check this measurement

Shoulders

• Measure from the end of the right shoulder to the end of the left shoulder.
• We define the “End of the Shoulder” as where the horizontal plane of the shoulder intersects the vertical plane of the arm (see illustration).
Feel for the edge of your bone. Measure to that point.
• Double check measurement.

Sleeves

• Measure from the end of the right shoulder bone to the bottom of your finger knuckle.
• Double-check this measurement.
• Repeat measurement from the end of the left shoulder bone to the bottom of your finger knuckle.
• Double-check this measurement.

Neck

• Measure around your neck at the height where your collar, if buttoned, would be.
• This measurement should be taken along the lower
section of the neck, below your Adams Apple and
above your Sternal Notch.
• The tape should be comfortably touching the skin,
with enough room so that you do not feel
restricted.

Biceps

• Measure around the fullest part of your bicep with your arms by your side.
• Measure both arms & record the larger measurement.

Front

• Measure from the "pinch" between your arm and armpit across to the "pinch" on the other side
• Do not measure under the armpit

Back

• Measure from the "pinch" between your arm and armpit across to the "pinch" on the other side
• Do not measure under the armpit

Pants Length

• Measure from the top of your pants' waistband to the floor along the outside of your leg.
• Make sure the tape is tight, that you are standing straight, and then measure.
• Double-check this measurement.

Crotch Measurement

• Measure from the front top of the pants waistband to the back top of the pants waistband.
• Make sure not to take this measurement too tight.
• If you are wearing jeans, it is important that you wear dress pants for this measurement.
• We know the model is wearing a belt, but make sure yours is off.

Thigh Measurement

• Measure around your thigh at its widest point. (Usually at the highest point)
• Measure both sides & record the largest measurement.

Calf Measurement

• Measure around your calf at its widest point.
• Measure both sides and record the largest measurement.

Inseam Measurement

• Measure from the lowest part of your crotch area to the floor.
• Make sure the tape is tight along the inside of your leg, that you are standing straight, and then measure. No shoes, please!
